i enjoyed wikipedia-ing Sunny…
- Sexual innuendo is used as a common premise. Words like “cream”, “peak”, “feel it”, “hard”, and “explode” are often mistaken for sexual meanings. In “The Nightman Cometh”, the line “boy’s soul”, is pronounced, “boy’s hole” by Frank, obviously regardingsodomy.
- Another running gag in the show, The Gang strictly refers to the act of sex as “banging”, having the verb “bang” used in this context in nearly every episode.
- In multiple episodes, “popping” off one’s shirt has become a Sunny staple, where as the act of removing the shirt from one’s body is strictly referred to as “popping” it off. For example, lines like, “let’s pop off that shirt”, and “I really should have popped that shirt off” can be heard throughout the series.
- Referring to people as “bitch” is a device widely used throughout the series by each member of The Gang, especially Mac.
- The physical removal or the destruction of one’s face is a common threat, as when Frank threatens to “shoot your face off” or Charlie declares that he’s going to “smack your face off of your face.” Charlie also made claim that he will “smash your face into a jelly!” to an insolent young boy.
Charlie Kelly
Charlie Day plays the role of Charlie Kelly, a co-owner of Paddy’s Pub and a childhood friend of Mac and Dennis. He is also Frank’s roommate and possibly his biological son. Charlie is an angryunderachiever prone to Al Pacino-styled outbursts. He has poor personal hygiene, lives in squalor, and frequently abuses inhalantssuch as glue and spray paint. Charlie, like the rest of The Gang, drinks copious amounts of alcohol. In addition, Charlie has abusedanabolic steroids, LSD, amyl nitrate poppers, and has been addicted to both powdered cocaine and crack. Throughout the show, Charlie exhibits difficulty reading and writing; The Gang frequently accuses him of being illiterate and calls him “retarded.” On one occasion, Mac went so far as to claim that “no one understands the subtleties of Charlie’s retardation better than me.”
Charlie’s mother reveals that he was the survivor of a failedabortion attempt.
His least-favorite task is killing rats in Paddy’s because “it takes an emotional toll” on him.
i loved the new episode! and i think ‘diaper time’ are now two of the funniest words ever. i like how much charlie and i could have in common, check with me on that in a year.
